Leave-in conditioners should be applied after you have deep conditioned your hair. They add an extra layer of protection and often act as heat protectants and styling agents. There are so many wonderful benefits to using a leave-in to add extra moisture to your hair and help it stay healthy through all of the styling and daily wear-and-tear.
Here are some of my favorite leave-in conditioners and treatments and why I love them:
Mixed Chicks Leave-In Conditioner is by far my absolute favorite! It gives my hair perfect definition, lots of body, shine, and has a lightweight, non-greasy finish. I have been in love with this product from the first time I used it because it was the first leave-in I found that also doubled as a styling product. I find that a little goes a long way as I typically get at least five days of wear from my wash-n-go before I start bunning. You can get the ten ounce bottle for around $17 at select Target locations or on Mixed Chicks’ website. However, because this is a staple for me, I buy the liter size bottle which retails for $50 on average.
ApHogee Keratin & Green Tea Restructurizer has to be my second favorite leave-in treatment because it adds elasticity and shine to hair and protects from heat damage and color fade. What I love most about this one is how powerful, yet lightweight it is. I have been spraying this treatment on my edges, kitchen and ends for years to keep those vulnerable areas protected. While this one will not double as a styling product, it can be layered in with other leave-ins and has some very important nourishing ingredients that all hair types need and can benefit from. This treatment is available at Sally Beauty for $7 or order it from online stores like Folica.com.
Creme of Nature Argan Oil Perfect 7 is packed with silk amino acids and argan seed oil to give hair added shine and moisture. What I love about this product is that it packs a lot of punch into one product. Not only does it help with detangling, it softens hair, conditions, acts as a heat protectant and prevents breakage. And like other argan oil infused products, it has an amazing smell! This leave-in goes for around $9 at retailers like Sally Beauty.
It’s A 10 Miracle Leave-In Product is a restorative treatment, meaning it will revitalize over-processed, dry, brittle hair to it’s original state (over time of course). What I love about this product is it’s ability to reshape damaged hair, especially from high-lift dyes and bleach. It’s also a great leave-in for all hair types and textures and acts as a heat protectant. You can grab the four ounce size treatment for $18 at a variety of retail outlets or buy it online from retailers like Target.
Giovanni Direct Leave-In Conditioner is a cream that adds lots of moisture and slip to the hair aiding in detangling and styling. It has lots of essential oils, such as rosemary and nutrients like vitamin E to keep hair healthy, and add lasting shine and protection after styling. What I love about this leave-in is the value for the price. This one retails for just $8 and is available at stores like Ulta, who often have coupon discounts available every month.
Kinky Curly Knot Today is this ultimate in detangling for curly girls with tough-to-detangle coils. It has wonderful conditioning properties like organic mango and lemongrass, and is sulfate, alcohol and paraben-free. What I love most about this product is how easy it makes detangling, especially for type 4 hair. It really adds a layer of protection that lessens pull-out while combing and aids in setting the hair for any type of styling. You can try this one for $12 at Target stores or get it from Kinky Curly’s online shop.
