Demi-Permanent Dye Application

Processing tips and information.

See how I apply demi-permanent color to my hair in this easy-to-follow, informational tutorial. In addition to watching, please read my full explanation of how hair dye works, factors that affect results and questions you can use during a consultation with a stylist.

NOTE: It is always my recommendation that you consult a professional colorist or stylist in your area before making any decisions about chemically altering the color of your hair. Even if you intend to do it yourself, it is good to know if what you are considering is actually feasible. Hair dye is not a “one size fit all” process. No two people will get the exact same result because everyone’s hair is different. Using what you see others use or guessing can be a costly, damaging, irreversible mistake. This is not meant to discourage you from ever dying your hair, but to arm you with information you need to make a wise, conscious decision!

I use Ion Demi-Permanent dye with low-level 10 developer. My hair's texture, porosity and natural medium brown color allow me to achieve this vibrant color without any bleach. Also, I did not experience heat damage, excessive shedding or breakage prior to using this color system or after.
I use Ion Demi-Permanent Light Burgundy Blonde with low-level 10 developer and touch-up every 10-16 weeks, depending on how much has washed out. My hair’s texture, porosity and natural medium brown color allow me to achieve this vibrant color without any bleach. Also, I did not experience heat damage, excessive shedding or breakage prior to using this color system or after.

  1. Hello
I very pleased with the information that you provide on your website about hair related stuff. I need a suggestion from you that I have a flat hair and has gone grey and evertime I dye my hair the color does not stay for very long so I have to dye every month and it has damaged my hair. I use loreal and other dye products what would you recommend for my hair because I want my hair to be colored from roots to tips. What color would suite best on my hair because my skin is beige and eyes are brown. Please reply me as soon possible.
    thank you

  2. I moved to Manchester NH and cannot find anyone I can go to for a consultation. I am not sure if there is a salon that caters to african american hair. I have dark brown hair and I know my hair needs to be lighten to get even close to a vibrant colors like yours. Any suggestions ? Or what would you do in my position. There is a sallys beauty salon here I am just not sure which products to use.
